Essex Appoints Warren and Tennant to Lead Women's Cricket

Essex has named Danni Warren and Andy Tennant, both from Sunrisers, to lead their women's cricket program as the team prepares for Tier 1 competition next season.

Warren, who previously served as the regional director of women’s cricket for London and the East, will step into the role of performance director at Essex. Tennant, a former Scotland international, will take on the position of team director for Essex Women, after previously coaching Sunrisers.

Tennant expressed his excitement about the new role, stating that he is eager to begin working with Essex Women as they enter a pivotal phase in the professional women’s game. He shared his confidence in the team’s potential, having collaborated with Warren and many of the Sunrisers staff and players. Tennant emphasised that their primary goal will be to create an environment where both players and staff can thrive, fostering success on and off the field. He sees this opportunity as a significant step toward establishing Essex Women as a major force in cricket.

Warren has held her position as Sunrisers' regional director since 2020 and brought Tennant on board as head coach before the 2023 season. Together, they guided Sunrisers to their first title in the women’s regional competition, securing a victory over South East Stars in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy final last summer.

Essex is one of eight teams awarded Tier 1 status after a competitive bidding process earlier this year, marking the ECB's decision to integrate women’s cricket more closely with the county system.
