Jack Leach is set to undergo knee surgery following the India vs England match

Jack Leach, the spinner from England, will undergo surgery for the left knee injury that ended his tour of India earlier.

Leach played his first Test since missing the Ashes, but suffered an injury in the field that caused severe swelling.

He played the first Test, missed the second, and has now returned home for an operation scheduled for Tuesday.

It is the latest setback for Leach, who suffers from Crohn's disease. He missed last summer's home series against Australia with a stress fracture in his back.

When he contracted sepsis on the 2019 tour of New Zealand, the 32-year-old feared for his life.

Despite the knee injury, Leach bowled 36 overs, often in short spells, in England's stunning first Test win over India in Hyderabad.

The first Test of the summer in England will be against West Indies at Lord's on 10 July. Meanwhile, Somerset, Leach's team, will begin their County Championship campaign away to Kent on 5 April.
