Lord's has become a second home to Philip Ring and his family

Philip Ring described becoming a full Member of Marylebone Cricket Club in 2010 as 'the most special moment in my life.' Joining MCC is a significant event for many reasons.

After spending a short time with Philip, it is evident that he is an avid sports fan. Although he enjoys various outdoor activities and supports Arsenal, his true passion lies in cricket and, more specifically, MCC.

When discussing his favourite players, he often mentions Cook, Stokes, and Gooch, all of whom have led their country with great distinction. Philip's eyes light up at the mention of Sir Alastair Cook, his favourite cricketer whom he met at Lord's.

Philip is the only known member of MCC with Down's Syndrome, but it is certain that few of the club's members share his passion for the game.

In 2010, when Philip became a full member, his parents Tony and Elaine collaborated with MCC to organise a special celebration in the President's Suite to welcome their son to the Club. Essex players Cook, Grant Flower, Graham Napier, and James Foster were also present to add to the occasion, and that moment has stayed with Philip ever since.

The Ring family's passion for cricket is evident to all who spend time with them. Tony became a member in 1980 after his uncle suggested it to him. Elaine became an Associate in 2004 and a full Member in January 2023, completing the final piece of the membership jigsaw.

Philip's love for Essex originates from here, and he still follows the county game passionately. When asked about his preferred format, it is evident that he loves cricket in all its forms, including Test, County Championship, ODI, T20, The Hundred, and Women's cricket.

Philip's first match of the season at Lord's always signals the start of summer for the Ring family and rekindles Philip's love for cricket.   He enjoys watching batting, bowling, and fielding, with a particular fondness

for batsmen of high regard. This summer promises to showcase many such players, and Philip, Tony, and Elaine will be comfortably seated in the Pavilion, with their red books safely stowed in their pockets.
