Nathan Lyon expressed disappointment over his shortened stint at Lancashire as a spinner for Australia

Australia spinner Nathan Lyon expressed disappointment at the reduction of his spell at Lancashire this summer, although he understands the decision.

Initially signed for the entire County Championship season, the 36-year-old's stint was cut to seven games at the request of Cricket Australia.

This was done to manage Lyon's workload, with a five-Test series against India starting on November 22.

"That's the nature of the beast," Lyon informed BBC Radio Lancashire.

Team up with a former enemy

Lyon arrives in Lancashire with Test experience. He will find himself in unfamiliar territory at Old Trafford as he teams up with an old foe.

England paceman James Anderson will become a Red Rose teammate during his time with the county.

"He was a big part of the reason that I signed," Lyon said.

Improve your game and share your knowledge

After moving his family to England to fulfill his ambition of playing a County summer, Lyon is eager to integrate into Lancashire's community.

During a conversation with head coach Dale Benkenstein, he expressed his passion for the sport and willingness to share his expertise with younger players.

Lyon also clarified that he is not there to impede Tom Hartley's progress, stating, 'I'm not here to take his spot, but to bowl alongside him.'
