Nottinghamshire CCC: Peter Moores says county 'shocked' to be ready for new season

After their "shock" return to Division One last season, head coach Peter Moores says Nottinghamshire will be much better prepared this term.

The new county season begins on Friday when Notts host Essex.

Speaking to BBC Radio Nottingham, Moores said they had learnt from finishing sixth in 2023.

"It took us a while to adjust last season," said 61-year-old Moores, who is in his eighth season in charge at Trent Bridge.

New Zealand batsman Will Young, who has re-signed for much of the 2024 County season, is back in the Nottinghamshire squad.

They will be led by opener Haseeb Hameed, who has been appointed captain, while Ben Lister and Fazalhaq Farooqi have also joined the squad for the T20 Blast campaign.

Moores insists he retains his passion for the game and his role at Notts, having won Championship titles as coach of Sussex and Lancashire, as well as two spells in charge of England.
