Ollie Robinson Sets Record for Most Runs Conceded in an Over in County Championship History

On June 26, during a match between Sussex and Leicestershire, England bowler Ollie Robinson unknowingly entered the record books for conceding 43 runs in a single over. This occurred when Sussex declared their second innings at 296-6, setting a target of 464 for Leicestershire. Leicestershire was struggling at 144-6 when Louis Kimber came to the crease and started hitting boundaries rapidly, quickly reaching his fifty.

Robinson bowled the 59th over with Kimber on 72, and the batter hit two sixes and six boundaries, while Robinson overstepped three times. Since no balls in County Cricket carry a two-run penalty, this resulted in an extremely costly nine-ball over.

Kimber completed his century with a boundary, and despite Robinson’s attempts to alter his bowling angle, Kimber continued his onslaught, setting a new record for the most runs scored off an over in the 134-year history of the County Championship. Just two days earlier, Shoaib Bashir had given up 38 runs in an over in a match between Surrey and Worcestershire, but Robinson's over surpassed this record.

Kimber, who had not been at the crease at the start of the day, went into lunch unbeaten on 191 off just 92 balls, with Leicestershire needing 89 more runs to win.
