Rain-Soaked Edgbaston Ends The Hundred
The final group match of The Hundred women's tournament between Birmingham Phoenix and Manchester Originals ended without a result due to rain at Edgbaston.
As the game began, both teams were already out of the play-off race, but Birmingham Phoenix managed to reach a promising 98-2 from 70 balls before the weather intervened. Australia's all-rounder Ellyse Perry was holding the fort with an unbeaten 45 off 39 deliveries.
Earlier in the match, England's Lauren Filer had claimed the wicket of opener Sterre Kalis, trapping her lbw for 18. Seamer Phoebe Graham also contributed by dismissing Fran Wilson, who managed to score 14.
Despite a winless 2023 season, Birmingham Phoenix showed improvement this year, securing three victories but ultimately finishing seventh on the leaderboard. Manchester Originals faced similar challenges, winning three matches and losing four, narrowly finishing above Phoenix based on net run rate.
