Record-Breaking Over for England Spinner Shoaib Bashir
England spinner Shoaib Bashir set an unfortunate record by conceding 38 runs in a single over during an English county championship match. Representing Worcestershire, the 20-year-old faced a barrage of five consecutive sixes from England teammate Dan Lawrence, who was playing for Surrey.
The troubles didn't end there for Bashir. The sixth delivery of his over went so far down the leg side that it resulted in five wides. This was followed by a no-ball on his next delivery, which added two runs and allowed a single for Lawrence. With Lawrence off strike, Bashir managed to bowl a dot ball with his final delivery, tying the record for the most expensive over in County Championship history.
Previously, Alex Tudor also conceded 38 runs in an over for Surrey against Lancashire in 1998, with former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff scoring 34 of those runs.
This match marked only the 12th first-class game for Bashir, who made his England Test debut during the tour of India earlier this year.
