Saim Ayub Leads Pakistan to 308 Against South Africa
Pakistan posted a competitive total of 308 in a rain-affected 47-over innings, with Saim Ayub's third ODI century anchoring their effort. Ayub, who has been in stellar form, built crucial partnerships with Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, ensuring a strong platform. Pakistan's innings faced delays and interruptions due to rain, but their late acceleration, led by Salman Agha and Tayyab Tahir, boosted the score.
South Africa’s bowlers struggled with consistency, despite early breakthroughs. Kagiso Rabada dismissed Abdullah Shafique for his third consecutive duck in the series, but dropped chances and expensive spells from the seamers hurt their defence. Rabada and Bjorn Fortuin managed three wickets each, with Fortuin delivering an economical spell.
Ayub’s fluent knock of 101 off 91 balls included well-timed boundaries and a mix of aggression and control. He shared a 114-run stand with Babar, who contributed a steady 52, and a 93-run partnership with Rizwan, who scored a brisk 53. Ayub eventually fell to debutant Corbin Bosch, leaving Pakistan well-placed.
Despite a late collapse where Pakistan lost four wickets for just five runs, Salman and Tayyab’s aggressive stand ensured a challenging target for South Africa. With the series already in Pakistan's favour, South Africa now faces a tough chase to secure a consolation win on their home ground.
