Samit Patel: 'Aggressive cricket' Derbyshire all-rounder wants
All-rounder Samit Patel says he has complete faith in his new Derbyshire teammates and is equally confident he can get the best out of them.
The 39-year-old will captain the county's one-day side this season and can play in all formats after joining from Notts:
"I'm excited by the challenge. It's going to be weird after 22 years but change is good,"
The new county season begins on Friday when Derbyshire hosts Gloucestershire in Division Two. Patel says he is excited by the mix of youth and experience at the club and believes he can help bring a winning mentality and belief to the team.
New faces include New Zealand fast bowler Blair Tickner and wicketkeeper-batsman Aneurin Donald, while veteran batsman Wayne Madsen has signed a new two-year contract, extending his time with the county to 16 full seasons.
Former Glamorgan skipper David Lloyd will captain the four-day side, while Patel will lead the one-day and T20 campaigns.
Patel, who made 629 appearances for Notts, scoring 20,937 runs and taking 713 wickets, said Derbyshire head of cricket Micky Arthur had made some "very shrewd signings".
Patel insists his enthusiasm is as strong as ever, having won two County Championship titles, two one-day trophies, and two T20 championships during his time at Trent Bridge.
He is likely to make his Derbyshire debut on 30 May when the domestic T20 competition begins, although he has not ruled out the possibility of a County Championship appearance before then.
September 2020 will be his final first-class appearance.
