Sunrisers Clinch Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy
Sunrisers claimed their first-ever Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy title, defeating South East Stars by 27 runs using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in a rain-shortened final at Leicester.
Chasing 213, Sunrisers reached 121-3 in 25 overs, with Cordelia Griffith's 57 off 68 balls and an unbeaten 39 from captain Grace Scrivens, before torrential rain and lightning forced an early end to the match.
Earlier, Alice Davidson-Richards impressed with 93 from 105 deliveries for South East Stars, but lacked significant support as Kate Coppack’s 4-27 helped bowl out the Stars for 212 in just 46.2 overs, leaving 22 balls unused.
This final marks the last time the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy will be awarded, as it will be replaced by the One-Day Cup next season as part of a broader restructuring of domestic women’s cricket in England.
Finishing fourth in the group stages, Sunrisers wouldn’t have progressed under the previous system, but the new semi-final format gave them an opportunity. They capitalised by defeating group winners Northern Diamonds in the semi-final and then overcoming second-placed South East Stars to secure their first—and final—trophy before the regional teams are disbanded in favour of county-based sides next season.
