Webster Joins Aus Test Squad Amid Marsh Fitness Doubts

Beau Webster, a standout Tasmania all-rounder, has been added to Australia's Test squad for Adelaide as uncertainty looms over Mitchell Marsh's availability due to fitness concerns.

Webster, known for transitioning from off-spin to effective medium pace while retaining the ability to bowl spin, has excelled in domestic cricket over the last two years. Recently, he impressed for Australia A against India A, scoring 145 runs across four innings, including key contributions in run chases, and taking seven wickets at an average of 19.57.

In the Sheffield Shield, Webster continued his fine form with scores of 61 and 49 against New South Wales and a five-wicket haul, including a match-winning over. He’s also recognised as one of the country's best slip fielders. His all-round performance over the last two seasons, including a stint with Gloucestershire, has seen him average 53.23 with the bat and 31.71 with the ball in first-class cricket.

Tasmania captain Jordan Silk praised Webster's versatility, calling him a reliable player with both bat and ball. Silk noted that Webster's shift to seam bowling has enhanced his value, making him a pivotal player in multiple roles.

After Australia's heavy loss in the first Test, coach Andrew McDonald confirmed the squad remains unchanged for Adelaide, though Marsh’s fitness remains a concern following his 17-over spell in Perth. If Marsh is unavailable, Webster could make his Test debut, offering an option to manage the bowling workload and maintain batting strength.
