Zak Crawley's Injury Shakes Up England's Cricket Plans

Zak Crawley has been sidelined from the Hundred due to a broken finger sustained while attempting a catch during the third Test against the West Indies. The England opener is awaiting a detailed assessment of the injury to his right-hand's little finger, with the possibility of needing surgery. The injury occurred on Sunday, the final day of the match, when Crawley missed a catch at second slip before lunch. Subsequent X-rays confirmed the fracture.

It has been confirmed that Crawley will miss at least the next three weeks of the Hundred, raising concerns that he may also be absent for part or all of the upcoming three-Test series against Sri Lanka, starting on August 21.

In Crawley's absence, Keaton Jennings has been brought in to play for London Spirit in the Hundred and may also be considered for a top-order position in the Test team. However, some believe England might prefer to promote Dan Lawrence, a typically middle-order batsman, to the opening position, despite his lack of recent game time.

Regardless of Crawley's status, England's bowling attack for the series against Sri Lanka is expected to include both Gus Atkinson and Mark Wood.
